Seven Students Complete Pilot Pharmacy Technician Program
A graduation ceremony was recently held at the Ochsner Health Center in Jefferson, Louisiana for students who successfully completed a nine-month training program to become licensed pharmacy technicians. Program participants completed on-line coursework, a four-week externship at Ochsner in both retail and hospital environments, and attended on-site presentations provided by subject matter experts to further their knowledge base. Seven students from the JOB1 Business and Career Solutions Center completed the program. Two students have passed their PTCB exam and are licensed pharmacy technicians. The remaining five are scheduling their test dates, including one make-up exam. Two individuals are currently working between 20-30 hours at Walgreen’s as Pharmacy Technicians, and another student is currently employed at CVS as a customer service representative to create a pathway to employment as a pharmacy technician to earn higher wages. The graduation ceremony was a collaborative effort involving JOB1, MedCerts and the Ochsner staff. Attendees included family and friends of the graduates, and representatives from ResCare Workforce Services, Ochsner Specialty, Retail Pharmacy and Pharmacy Services, JOB1, MedCerts, Delgado, Greater New Orleans Foundation and the City of New Orleans.
